Song Premiere: Yonder Mountain String Band “Ever Fallen in Love”

June 3, 2015

Black Sheep, the new album from Yonder Mountain String Band is set for release on June 16 (it is now available for pre-order). This is the first record from the group to feature their new lineup with Jacob Jolliff on Mandolin and Allie Kral on fiddle. As our review in the June issue of Relix concludes, “Ultimately, Black Sheep is the start of the band’s second act and quickly proves that the reconfigured Yonder Mountain String Band are well poised for the future.”

Today we premiere their cover of the Buzzcocks’ “Ever Fallen in Love” from Black Sheep. Adam Aijala, who sings lead on the tune, tells Relix, “I love this song and always thought it would be a fun one for Yonder to cover. In early 2014, I showed the chords to Ben and Dave and shortly after that we started messing around with it in green rooms while on the road. When it came time to head into the studio, it was actually Ben who suggested we should record it. I was unsure because at that point Yonder had never recorded a cover for one of our own records with the exception of songs by Benny “Burle” Galloway. In the end we all agreed it would be an interesting choice for a cover as it is yet another parallel between punk rock and bluegrass with its fast tempo and pointed lyrics. We think the final result sounds great and fits well amongst our originals, too. Hope you like it.”
