Song Premiere: God Street Wine “Oh Wonderful One”

January 5, 2016

God Street Wine will return to the stage for two shows on a special bill later this month. Assembly of Strange Wine also will feature Strangefolk and Assembly of Dust. The first of these dates is set for Friday, January 15 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY followed by a gig on Saturday, January 16 at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston, MA.

To mark the occasion, we are debuting new music from God Street Wine.

The group’s Jon Bevo wrote “Oh Wonderful One” and he tells Relix, “This tune is 20 years or so in the making. It started out as a verse scribbled out on Holiday Inn stationery during a stumble back home from an after-hours P-Funk show at SXSW (although admittedly this tune isn’t bringing back the funk). It was initially about my girlfriend back home whom I’d been missing, but never really had that ‘something special’ (the tune that is – the girl became my wife, so she definitely had that something special). After an event that occurred in the more recent past threw me for a loop, I sat at the piano, and the lyrics changed and a chorus showed up – and the Wonderful One was now someone entirely different (please note that my wife is still just as wonderful as ever).

“I first recorded it at home with my crap vocals and a drum loop. When I sent it around just to share with the rest of GSW, Tom suprised me by sending me a proper (and fantastic) drum take. Then Lo had at it, and really made it shine with guitars and a killer vocal take. Next I grabbed Dan from down the street to throw down a few proper bass passes between his kids’ soccer games, and then it went off to Aaron in Woodstock to bring it home with some stellar slide and background vox. The whole process was very cool the way it developed, and I hope we can do a lot more of it. I owe these guys many of the best years of my life – so was touched everyone wanted to lend a hand – which truly turned it into a full-on GSW tune. Hope you enjoy it.”
