RIP Sharon Jones: Remembering the Soul Queen with Reactions and Memories

November 19, 2016

The sad news broke last night that powerhouse soul and R&B singer Sharon Jones, longtime frontwoman for the Dap-Kings, has
passed away after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Jones’ passing hit the music world hard, and many took to social media to voice their sadness while remembering the positive spirit that Jones always exuded in both her performances and her life.

Below, see just a few of the many tributes that have been pouring in since last night, including responses from Jones’ Daptone Records Family and more, along with a couple of choice memories from Jones’ career, including the time she helped Phish cover The Rolling Stones’
Exile On Main Street for Halloween 2009, that time Prince laid down a surprise guitar solo during a Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings set in Paris and Jones’ onstage collaboration with Umphrey’s McGee on a James Brown tune from earlier this year.
