Well first of all, if you look around for some sales, you can praobbly find a 42 Westinghouse LCD for around $1100. They’re on sale at my local Fred Meyers for that much. This is an excellent screen (I have 2 of them) that displays 1080p and won’t disappoint. For the price, it’s by far the best bang for the buck. It would serve better than a 32 anything I think; and I personally prefer LCD’s over plasmas anyway becuase the pixel size on plasmas is so large that it just irks me. But the reason I recommend this Westy TV is because it’s cheap for what you get 1080p which means if you ever get the HD Drive for that 360 and start watching HD DVD’s, you’ll already have the right TV to take full advantage of it. Likewise when your PS3 shows up and you get some BluRay movies. If you have HD cable again you’ll be in the optimal position to take advantage of it. Moving on.. if you want a decent surround sound setup, be prepared to spend at least as much as you will spend on the TV. Otherwise, if you can sacrifice quality, you can get a home theatre in a box or HTIB setup at Best Buy or somesuch. That will preclude any possibility of using your own speakers however; and you’ll have to run more wires back and forth. You really get what you pay for.If you want to invest in a receiver, it can be daunting to find the right one. What you want to look for, primarily, is that it has enough inputs for whatever items you have, or plan to have. I believe Yamaha makes some receivers in the $300-$400 range that have a good mix of component, S-video, composite and optical inputs while cranking out 5.1 channel surround. If you spend a little more, you can get a receiver with HDMI inputs. The nice thing about a receiver is that you can plug in 6-10 different items, and have a grand total of ONE wire running to your TV; so long as the receiver you pick out, can convert any analog input to a component output. Of course, you’ll also need speakers and good speakers cost $$$. Again, if you’re on a budget, you may be better off with a HTIB. However, a good receiver and speakers will outlast and outperform any HTIB by a million times. With your list of video game consoles, you SHOULD be able to hook them all up to almost any receiver, as long as you have different cable types. i.e. the Dreamcast and N64 are praobbly composites; you might have components for the Xbox and PS2; and who knows what for the 360.
