It may have been three years since J. Roddy Walston and The Business released their self-titled 2010 album but that isn’t to say that they’re taking it easy. They recently signed to a new label, ATO, and continue to build on their reputation as a rambunctious live band. On Essential Tremors_, the band shows that they’re ready and fully willing to show off what they’ve learned. The elements that fans have come to love are still there – stomping guitar riffs, pianos and drums – but the arrangements are tighter and channel a variety of classic influences from Led Zeppelin-style rock to a little bit of sing-along balladry. Walston instinctually knows when to wail away ( “Heavy Bells” ) and when to get soulful ( “Midnight Cry” ).
