Delta Spirit: Into The Wide

Lee Zimmerman on September 10, 2014

An album that’s sweeping in scope, Into The Wide was borne from dire circumstances—a windowless, rat-infested rehearsal room ravaged by the effects of Superstorm Sandy. The results reflect the situation; these are epic songs of despair and desperation, a vivid display of anthemic proportions. “Push It” provides an auspicious introduction, its wallop and resolve a reflection of the band’s oversized ambitions. Practically every track unfolds the same way, with “From Now On,” “Live On, “Patriarch” and “Take Shelter” driven by the consistently kinetic pulse. Even songs that find momentary respite—“Hold My End Up,” “War Machine” and “Into The Wide”—don’t linger very long before giving way to the fueled up agitation. Over the years, Delta Spirit has changed their tune, but Into The Wide demonstrates their most determined effort yet. A rousing, riveting spectacle of an album, it creates an indelible impression.
