Band of Horses: Infinite Arms
Brown/ Fat Possum/ Columbia
Recorded over 16 months in a variety of locations with an excess of tunes to choose from, Infinite Arms, album three, is arguably Band of Horses’ finest album to date. The harmonies and the melodies that hover over the endless night sky are still in place. The deep reverb, however, is used sparingly. Singer/songwriter Ben Bridwell channels his Southern roots without turning things into a jukejoint. The title track features the band pushing forth the strengths evident on Cease to Begin_, while “Evening Kitchen” and “Bartles + Jaymes” are lullabies that sound like their tight-harmonies are broadcasting from the back pews of a country church. There are country lopes, punchy new wave pop numbers and the sound of a band rediscovering themselves and liking what they hear.
