Chris Stamey: Lovesick Blues

Yep Roc

Not even six months shy of a triumphant reunion with his old group the dB’s, Chris Stamey takes his songcraft to a new level of intimacy on his latest solo endeavor Lovesick Blues. These 11 songs recall of the emotional vibe his dear friend, the late Alex Chilton, displayed on Big Star’s 1978 pop masterpiece Third. And given the vividness and attention to detail that Stamey brings forth on such gorgeously arranged cuts as “London,” “Wintertime” and “The Room Above the Bookstore,” you’d think that the guy just got over the breakup of the century. The funny thing is that he’s happily married. But the fact that Lovesick Blues leads you to believe otherwise goes to show what kind of lyricist Chris Stamey is—a crackerjack of the highest order.
