The Wallflowers: Glad All Over

Columbia

“Reboot the Mission” isn’t just the name of the lead single off The Wallflowers’ first LP in nearly eight years: It’s the thesis statement. The Mick Jones cameo isn’t a fluke. Revitalized by the return of original keyboardist Rami Jaffee and the addition of former Pearl Jam/Chili Peppers drummer Jack Irons, Jakob Dylan undoubtedly taps into his inner Joe Strummer on Glad All Over, particularly on Combat Rock evoking material like “Mission” and “It’s A Dream.” Meanwhile, the band earns their right to ape the title of the Dave Clark Five’s best record on the swinging, soulful “Have Mercy on Him Now.” But in spite of some obligatory “One Headlight” moments here and there, namely “One Set of Wings,” it looks like The Wallflowers have earned a second act.
