Zac Brown Band: Uncaged

Atlantic/Southern Ground

To call the Zac Brown Band a Southern rock band—or even country rock—is to pigeonhole this seven piece Georgia outfit. This group clearly owes as much to The Band as to the Allman Brothers, and like those bands, ZBB also presents a full sound around vintage organ fills, driving percussion, thundering basslines and bluesy guitar licks. But the band doesn’t stop there, adding some New Orleans groove via a Trombone Shorty cameo, kicking up their old school country heels, dabbling in reggae and throwing down some tear-jerker ballads. What’s unmistakable is that the band—after extensive touring—is in a tighter and more cohesive frame of mind than on previous releases—and undoubtedly having one hell of a good time making music.
