Ben Kweller: Go Fly a Kite

The Noise Company

For the proper debut release on his boutique label The Noise Company, Ben Kweller celebrates his tenth year as a solo artist with his brightest, brashest and most realized album to date. The self-produced Go Fly a Kite suggests serious time spent on the must-visit blogger site Power Pop Overdose, as elements of The Only Ones, Shoes and Rockpile pepper tracks like “Jealous Girl,” “Justify Me” and “Time Will Save the Day.” However, one can also factor in a healthy Neil Young vibe on songs like “Full Circle” and “Gossip,” which expand on the country lean that he delivered on 2009’s Changing Horses. After a decade of soul searching, Kweller has finally found the quintessential vessel to reflect his immense talents as a songwriter in the fusion of flavors that he presents on this excellent LP.
