Younger Brother: Vaccine

SCI Fidelity

Younger Brother’s Vaccine is proof that electronic music has finally fused with pop music in such a way that—at times—the two are indistinguishable from one another. Whereas previous Younger Brother albums drew on the groundbreaking psy-trance and distinct Goa-influenced downbeat of producers Simon Posford (Shpongle) and Benji Vaughan (Prometheus), Vaccine is a pure pop album. And, yet, the music still retains and draws on the same flock of bleeps from Younger Brothers’ previous two albums—except now those sounds are tied to well-crafted ditties, with verses and bridges and choruses. Old chums Marc Brownstein (Disco Biscuits), Tom Hamilton (Brothers Past) and Joe Russo (Furthur) also all contribute. Think of Vaccine as an insidious antidote to all the curiously dubstep-sounding pop hits that flooded the market this year.
