Randall Bramblett & Geoff Achison and Friends: Jammin’ in the Attic

Hittin’ the Note

Among their fellow musicians, keyboardist and tenor sax player Randall Bramblett and guitarist Geoff Achison have established reputations as some of the finest artists of their respective crafts. So it should come as no surprise that when this revered duo chose to team up for a series of shows, a cast of world class musicians were waiting to jump aboard. Along with Bramblett and Achison, Jammin’ in the Attic —a live recording from June of last year at Eddie’s Attic in Decatur, Ga.—also features Grammy Award winning drummer Yonrico Scott, bassist Ted Pecchio and guitarist Oliver Wood. The acclaimed duo alternates between playing each others’ songs, while showcasing their gifts as musicians and songwriters. Highlights include Bramblett’s rich sax lines on “Rule the World,” Scott’s drumming on “Nobody’s Problem” and Wood’s punchy guitar riffs on “Jungle.” However, not all listeners will take to Bramblett’s grainy, and often costive vocal delivery.

Rand, great post! I introduced myslef to you at Nevada City not only to let you know I’m a fan of your blog, but also to mention I overheard Pat Briggs defending his “mail me the stars and stripes jersey” comments to a few hecklers earlier that day. Now I don’t know you or Pat personally, but I still laugh at the memory of Pat struggling to cast those comments in a better light. Moments like those aren’t possible without the fine work you perform at The Counter. Keep up the good work. As an aside, Googling ‘2011 Masters RR Champion’ always makes me smile.
