Donavon Frankenreiter : Revisited
Liquid Tambourine
Donavon Frankenreiter’s sixth solo album reflects back on his progress as a musician. On Revisited, Frankenreiter does exactly as the name implies: he revisits and revamps ten songs off of his 2004 self-titled debut. He strips his songs back to just his voice and traditional Hawaiian instruments like the ukulele and lap steel guitar, giving them a calm, soothing sound. Songs like “Free,” the hit off his debut, are presented in skeletal forms—no drums or keys—and are more like ballads than their originals arrangements. This method highlights Frankenreiter’s sweetly raspy vocals and the heartfelt message that has always guided most of his lyrics.
