Trampled By Turtles : Palomino
Self-Released
Now that The Avett Brothers have found commercial and critical success, the rest of the new wave string bands hope to follow in the band’s footsteps. Among those acts is the pride of Duluth, Minn., Trampled By Turtles, whose fifth studio album, Palomino, finds the acoustic quintet showing off powerful songwriting skills, massive instrumental chops and gorgeous, high-lonesome harmonies that keeps its sizeable fanbase growing in the Midwest and beyond. TxT keep things interesting on Palomino by moving from fast-paced instrumentals (“Sounds Like A Movie”) to somber ballads (“Again”) to intense rave-ups (“It’s A War”) over the course of the disc’s 12 tracks. Lead singer/guitarist Dave Simonett’s crisp production ties everything together and shows off the delicate intricacies of TxT’s music.
