Brock Butler: Lately Here Though

Self-Released

Perpetual Groove frontman Brock Butler packs a lot of soul into Lately Here Though, a nine-track record that clocks in at just under 38 minutes. A departure from what fans may have come to expect from Butler, the disc is mostly acoustic with minimal instrumentation beyond guitar and vocals. It’s a reflective and passionate collection of songs about space, time and pontificating about what could have been and what might be. Throughout, Butler remains hopeful and introspective with his guitar-driven folk based on poetic human lyrics rather than his band’s traditional improvisational electronica—here, in fact, he sounds a lot like an early-day Paul Simon. He sings with emotional urgency exuding a mellow, go-with-the-flow look at his environs.

What a great review!! This album goes with me everywhere, it plays in my head constantly whether I’m asleep or awake and my four year old demands it. I really appreciate the acoustic/raw sound that it has and the emotions that pour out of Brock in this album!!!

I got a Los Straitjackets track as a free download from iTunes, and I kinda dig it. Meh. I get two-three new songs per week as free iTunes dowlonads, and I can’t even keep up with listening to them. I’m just not a person to make recommendations.
