Gogol Bordello

Combining elements of punk, Gypsy and cabaret music, Gogol Bordello has become an unexpected musical force. The decade-old band, fronted by the charismatic Eugene Hütz, released its fifth album this past spring—the Rick Rubin-produced and aptly titled Trans-Continental Hustle. Relix jumps onboard with Gogol Bordello on its global trek to see what drives one of the most exciting live bands working today.

Michael Franti & Spearhead

For more than two decades, Bay Area-born Michael Franti has created exceptionally powerful socially-conscious music. In the mid-‘90s, Franti created Spearhead, an upbeat, multi-genre band whose messages of positivity resonated with ever-growing audiences. The group conceived its latest disc, The Sound of Sunshine, in the wake of Franti’s near-fatal appendicitis in August 2009.

Plus: The String Cheese Incident, Grace Slick, Warren Haynes, Los Lobos, Nick Cave, Tom Tom Club, Real Estate, Lissie, The London Souls, and much, much more.
