Either some of those performances sucked or no one stayed up late enough to hear/see them!

kyle July 29, 2011, 10:49:15

This cannot be accurate at all. If enough people were polled, Furthur would take the lead. Even with their hour long set break, Gathering of the Vibes is a deadhead festival.

Furthur really kind of sucked at Vibes. Definitely wasn’t the best set.

i’m sure the McMuffins got all their 15 year old highschool fangirls to vote for them…

tomgrin August 9, 2011, 01:14:08

@Old Man Tobias…. Dude, I have to say that’s pretty F’d up. I did my best to avoid what I thought was “surely a gimmick”... But after several years – the McLovins just kept touring and popping up, and not for nothing, they are extremely rare and talented. It’s impossible to dispute their talent. (age aside, which is just an even crazier factor). I’m no “15yo HS fangirl”. The metrics alone would mean that Further would take the lead – clearly. So it says quite a lot that not only are the McLovins standing that high up, but that Further isn’t even close in the %. Are the McLovins better than Further? Come on dude, the kids are huge fans themselves of the Dead. But don’t be an A-hole and dismiss their earned fanbase.

I agree with Shayna, definitely NOT Furthur’s best set…it was hot and it seemed to really affect the band (of course totally understandable!) For me, God Street Wine (Lo Faber et al.) was the highlight for me! I haven’t seen those guys in years….

Dark Star Orchestra blew Furthur away!!! Totally my favorite performance of the Vibes!

Old Man Tobias August 13, 2011, 16:23:43

I didn’t say they weren’t talented (although they’re not really doing anything original. and yes I’m a musician too so it is possible for some to dispute all of the attention that they get just because they’re young) but their show was at like 11am and hardly anybody was there. Like 30 people tops. Yet they win first place on this poll. You’re telling me that’s not skewed? Their housewife mom definitely enlisted the help all of her fellow soccer moms to get her boys to the top of the list.

tomgrin August 22, 2011, 19:23:10

@old man tobias – I understand where you’re coming from (a bit..), but 30 people? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150274658579057&set=a.10150274658054057.414099.54065724056&type=1&theater not too shabby for a noon wake-up set and their first time on the main stage. Look, I tried to pass on what I thought was a gimmick for a few years, but these kids are talented, and the bottom line is if you don’t like them, that’s fine… but a lot more people do than you may want to accept. Peace man, happy & safe trails brother.

tomgrin August 22, 2011, 19:27:51

the housewife mom comment is pretty f’d up. If I was around you, despite my peaceful nature, as a man, I’d probably deck you. Sure, their family’s still manage them. But they’re no Joe Jackson. They give the kids plenty of support and freedom (I know, I’ve booked them and seen it from a few angles), and they still harp on their education too. And not for nothing, do you think the industry sharks aren’t swimming waiting for a piece of the action. Kudos for their family’s and friends keeping it DIY & indie in these times. Keep on believing in the old school days of rock and roll make believe while the rest of us adapt to survive in the new era. Again, I mean the best, but you’re a little bit pissed at their success, and why not enlist some of your own friend’s “soccer moms” to help “re-skew” this poll? the playing field is wide open then isn’t it? (wiping it off my shoulder.. tisk tisk). peace.
