Our House (Mentality)

Wild Adriatic heard the calling. The Saratoga Springs, N.Y., power trio was working the summer circuit, appearing at festivals such as Gathering of the Vibes and moe. down, and noticed that many of their peers were simply using their songbooks as launching pads once they stepped onstage. Inspired, the group began expanding its own improvisational boundaries, accepting a challenge to take their neat, clean and often embellished studio versions and set them free. From that decision, a new sense of possibilities evolved, including Wild Adriatic’s latest album, recorded in front of the hometown faithful, appropriately titled Live Volume One: No Way, Let’s Do It! The 16-song set is an electrified ride and a rugged rock-and-roll statement, informed equally by blues and soul and influenced by such giants as Rush and Led Zeppelin, with the group paying its dues on a ripping cover of Zep’s “The Ocean.” Formed in 2011, this band of three best friends has maintained what they call their “house mentality,” conscious of each hard-earned step. “I want to climb the ladder the way you’re supposed to climb the ladder,” says drummer Mateo Vosganian. “If everything we do gets us a little bit closer, that’s a really cool thing.’’
