“In 1999, I had an idea for a band, or more like an artistic organization, that was like a band but also able to do other things—video, theater, dance,” says frontman Stuart Bogie. “Music was the part that I cared about most, so I started there just to get something happening.” Twelve years later, that idea has blossomed beautifully into Brooklyn’s underground afro-jamband Superhuman Happiness. Bogie—who also serves as sax player for New York’s Afro-beat kings Antibalas as well as indie darlings Iron & Wine—believes that musical performances should transcend the feeling of a religious experience. “I want to be within the mathematical ratios of God,” he says. “I think the things that make music beautiful are the things that make plants grow—the things that bring the tide in.” The band thrives in the live setting with futuristic, groove-oriented songs, liquid segues and infectious blissed-out melodies. Superhuman Happiness has also been busy in the studio and have now released The Physical EP on Marco Benevento’s Royal Potato Family label. “There was a time I started asking myself what I wanted out of a musical performance,” Bogie concedes. “And I’ve been moving toward it ever since.”

TO: DADvocateRE: Advantages & DisadvantagesSure, any electronic dcivee can take a beating and fail. So can books. On the other hand, can YOU carry around 300+ books in your hip pocket? I can, with Eucalyptus and Kindle and Apple’s iBooks.Indeed, sitting in the pub 100 miles away from home, waiting for a 20-something (my daughter) to show up for lunch, I can read ANY of those books on this iPad, as well as type this comment. Let alone play any of the games I mentioned (above), including SimCity and Civilization. I can also challenge the bartender to make something from one of the several mixology apps or begin a randomly selected polite Bargument with the app of the same name. What’s my point? See the RE: of this comment.Regards,Chuck(le)P.S. And YES I did have an iPad bite the proverbial ‘dust’. Or rather a rock while ATVing about the family cabin. I was intent upon waypoint marking all the various landmarks on and around the property when a BFR threw me and the iPad, in case, absorbed the bulk of the impact rather than my body. Gotta learn to twist harder and faster….
