This trio hailing from Greenville, S.C. blends pop, rock, funk and electronica—something the members like to call “dance-a-funk-a-rock-a-tronic,” says Will Evans (guitar/keys/backing vox). “Fans can expect to see a high energy performance” along with improvisation and multi-instrumentation. “We all play drums and some keys, so we throw in a three-man drum jam and an electro/synth jam,” he adds. “And if they’re lucky, fans can catch us with a horn section that pops up from time to time.” After playing with three different drummers, the guys—who came together in Los Angeles in 2008—“now have what we think is a workable sitch ,” Evans says. “We have added a fourth, invisible and extremely talented member: backing synth tracks.” The group draws inspiration from everything from James Brown and David Bowie to modern sounds like Ghostland Observatory and Them Crooked Vultures. And, after releasing two EPs and the full-length Robots of Evolution, the band has found a sound all its own. “When we were recording Robots, we were told that if we couldn’t reproduce it live, then we shouldn’t record it,” Evans says. “We knew that was bullshit, so we found a way—now, we no longer feel limited in the studio.”
