Formed in 2007 when guitarist Jonas Meyer and drummer Kiryll Kulakowski made the decision to leave Steven Hawkins Mighty Future Shuttle (SHMFS), the German instrumental rock outfit Frames combines art-rock with elements of classical, prog-rock and even grind-metal. “I always wrote a lot, so Kiryll convinced me to start a new band to realize my songs… I’m more of a quiet person so I express myself through the music,” says Meyer, who is the group’s sole songwriter. “It’s a very personal thing for me.” The band came together piece by piece as it began searching for a keyboardist through the Internet and discovered Manuel Schoenfeld. SHMFS bassist Julian Hoffmann later joined (since replaced) and Frames began to record its demo EP in 2009. The band has now completed its first full-length album titled Mosaik —a fully instrumental, breakthrough album that sees the band traverse numerous aural pastures to create a single piece of flowing music. Meyer explains: “It’s one song. Every song is a piece of the mosaic and the album is a mosaic. So each song is like a small stone that creates a full picture.”
