The Tales

Brooklyn, N.Y.

“No one can deny a good song,” says singer/guitarist Andy Burri of Brooklyn rock quartet The Tales. “That’s kind of the framework for our band.” Burri met the other members of The Tales— Mike Haziza and Dave Brandwein —in Boston around the summer of ‘08 via a mutual bass player of their then-current bands. “Meeting these guys and seeing how creative and talented and diverse their musical landscapes were, I knew I had found a way to bring together the idea of The Tales,” Burri says. The group’s tight vocal harmonies, clean and reverb-ridden guitars, and catchy pop rhythms that appear on the four tracks of the band’s self-titled EP hints to the music of past decades. “Build a Home” hints at The Beatles’ sound while “Sick Joke” feels like a lost Beach Boys song. “[Sometimes] someone will just come up with a chorus or a good beginning verse into the chorus and we’ll flesh the rest out,” Burri says of the band’s songwriting approach. “We spend most of the time on our vocals.”
