Watch Michael Stipe, Perry Farrell, Pixies, Flaming Lips and More Honor David Bowie at Carnegie Hall

April 1, 2016

Last night at Carnegie Hall in New York, the first of two David Bowie tribute shows took place featuring the likes of R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Sean Lennon, J Mascis, Perry Farrell, Ann Wilson, The Flaming Lips and many others as those honored the music of the late icon.

Among the highlights were appearances early on from the likes of Robyn Hitchcock, who took the lead on “Soul Love” as well as Gogol Bordello’s Eugene Hutz who sang “Breaking Glass.” Debbie Harry led the proceedings on “Starman” while J Mascis and Sean Lennon teamed up for “Quicksand.” Other highlights include Perry Farrell’s spirited take on “Rebel Rebel” as well as Heart’s Ann Wilson singing “Let’s Dance.”

After performing “The Man Who Sold the World” on The Tonight Show, R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe delivered his version of “Ashes to Ashes” shortly before the show wrapped up with The Flaming Lips’ visual “Life on Mars?” performance and a rousing full-ensemble take on Bowie’s classic “Space Oddity.”
