Umphrey’s McGee to Release Album Recorded at Abbey Road

Umphrey’s McGee will release The London Session on April 7 recorded at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London this past June while the band was in town to play three nights at the newly opened Brooklyn Bowl London. As told to Rolling Stone, the band spent one day at the studio and recorded ten songs, including nine originals and one cover of The Beatles’ “I Want You (She’s So Heavy).”

On the appropriately chosen cover, Brendan Bayliss said, “We initially bagged the idea. We’re going to start a Beatles song and the engineers there will be like, ‘Really, you’re going to do this? If we don’t play it wrong, it crushes. And we nailed it.”

Among the songs included on The London Session are newer tunes “Comma Later,” “Bad Friday,” “No Diablo,” “Cut the Cable” as well as older songs receiving their first studio treatment in “Glory,” “Eat” and “Out of Order.”

Brendan Bayliss added, “This is something no one can take from me. And it gives us confidence moving forward, writing new songs. Any studio experience after this will be so much less stressful.”

The London Session is available to pre-order via the band’s website. Watch them perform “I Want You (She’s So Heavy) below.
