Stevie Wonder Makes Surprise Appearance at House of Blues in New Orleans

May 2, 2016

The final weekend of Jazz Fest was marred by severe weather that moved into the area, forcing the cancelation of Saturday’s music and some of Sunday. That didn’t stop the party from carrying on indoors as the House of Blues in New Orleans played host to a special appearance in the form of Stevie Wonder.

As Offbeat reports, Wonder, whose set was cancelled due to weather, took the stage with Irvin Mayfield, Trombone Shorty and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra for a harmonica jam that included him leading the crowd in a singalong of Prince’s “Kiss.” He would then return a few minutes later for a speech that touched on Prince, David Bowie and all the musicians who have passed away this year. Then, along with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, Wonder delivered his own “I Just Called to Say I Love You” and a snippet of Prince’s “Raspberry Beret” before exiting.
