Israeli hip-hop star Sagol 59 has released The Promised Land: The Grateful Dead/Jerry Garcia Hebrew Project featuring takes on various Grateful Dead classics. As Live for Live Music points out, the record finds Sagol teaming up with folk singer Ami Yares to translate tunes like “Sugaree,” “Friend of the Devil” and more in Hebrew.

Carefully translated over the course of two years, the record was recorded in Israel and the U.S. and was authorized by the band’s publishing company. It is being released in time to celebrate the Grateful Dead’s 50th anniversary. Additional musicians on the album include Naaman Shadmi on keys, Avsha Elan on bass, Gon Amir on drums and percussion. Jason Reich played mandolin on “Friend of the Devil” and all songs were translated by Khen Rotem.
