Brian Wilson Dishes on ‘Pet Sounds’ on 50th Anniversary of Landmark Beach Boys Record

May 16, 2016

In a new interview with Jambands.com, the Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson reflects on the band’s landmark record Pet Sounds as it turns 50 years old.

Among the highlights, Wilson calls “God Only Knows” “my favorite song I ever wrote.” When asked if he ever gets sick of talking Pet Sounds, Wilson says that he doesn’t because “it’s probably one of the best albums we ever did.”

Wilson goes into further detail, saying, “When I hear ‘California Girls’ it inspires me a lot. Y’know, they were cut fresh and the vocals were timeless, y’know what I mean? In, like, 200 years from now, you could play a Beach Boys record, or a Phil Spector record, or a Rolling Stones record and it’ll sound just as fresh.”

This summer, Wilson will present Pet Sounds in its entirety in honor of the anniversary. Currently, that run will take Wilson overseas to the UK and other parts of Europe but when he returns to the U.S. will play at Brooklyn’s Northside Festival, Ottawa Jazz Festival, Pitchfork Festival and a host of other headlining dates.
