John Neff Announces His Departure from Drive-By Truckers

It appears that longtime Drive-By Truckers guitarist John Neff has quit the band. Earlier today Neff posted a simple, direct statement on his Facebook page, which indicates, “Today I quit the Drive-by Truckers. Thanks for all the friendships. Let’s keep in touch.” Neff appeared on the group’s debut record, Gangstabilly and later joined the band in studio for Pizza Deliverance, and Decoration Day before becoming a full-time touring member of the group in 2006. At present the band has not issued a statement regarding his departure, however one as-yet-unconfirmed story making the rounds (which seems unlikely) is that former Widespread Panic guitarist George McConnell was contacted about potentially joining the group for their three-night New Year’s Eve run at the 9:30 Club in Washington, DC, which kicks off on Saturday.
