Paul McCartney To Lead "Nirvana Reunion" Tonight

British newspaper The Sun is reporting that Paul McCartney will front a Nirvana reunion, of sorts, tonight in New York City. McCartney will join Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, bass player Krist Novoselic and guitarist Pat Smear, who toured with the group in 1993 and 1994 (and later appeared with Grohl in the earliest incarnation of Foo Fighters) before Cobain took his own life in April 1994. The quartet will perform at the 12-12-12: A Concert for Sandy Relief benefit.

The story indicates that McCartney called up Grohl “and found himself playing” with the trio, unaware of what this represented until “somebody whispered to me ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.”

With all due respect to Sir Paul, we’re not sure if he is ideally suited for the gig but in deference to all parties involved, we’ll keep an open mind.

Please feel free to share your thoughts below…

No thank you.

Kurt changed my life with his insightful and surreal music and lyrics. I only wish he could have stuck around to make more to listen to for future generations. I was compelled to compose a portrait of him In Memoriam recently on the anniversary of his death on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/04/in-memoriam-kurt-cobain-and-lane-staley.html Drop in and tell me your memories of his music and how it’s affected you.
