Jackie Greene to Join Bob Weir for "Weir Here" at TRI

Jackie Greene will join Bob Weir during his “Weir Here” webcast at TRI Studios on Wednesday, December 5. The past couple of “Weir Here” events have seen Weir play a few acoustic songs while answering questions from fans via Twitter. It was during the November 9 webcast that Weir announced that he would be putting on an all-star concert for Sandy relief, though the details of that event have not yet been revealed. As previously reported, Weir will be hosting “Weir Here” sessions at TRI every Wednesday through December 5.

In addition to his appearance for the upcoming “Weir Here” session, Greene has also confirmed some guests for his annual birthday residency at The Fillmore in San Francisco which begins this evening and continues on Friday and Saturday. Alex Nelson and Tumbleweed Wanderers will join him tonight, while Deep Dark Woods will join him on the 23rd. Additional guests will also be making appearances on the 23rd and 24th. Tickets to the shows can be purchased here.

Well, I think this is going to be a great tour, but I’m glad that hits going to be a short one. The DEAD are still able to generate pletny of money by touring and thats why they do it. But, it’s a shame that they have to have Warren Haynes to help bail them out on vocal/lead guitar duties. Don’t get me wrong, I love to hear Warren’s versions of such classics as Ramble On Rose and Stella Blue. But, everytime he goes on the road with The DEAD or Phil Lesh & Friends it puts his duties with the Allman Brothers Band and Gov’t Mule on hold or even pushed to the back burner, so to speak. It’s been several years since any new material from the ABB has been released & the MUle was just really beginning to gain momentum. I understand why The DEAD wish to recruite Warren & I understand why Warren wishes to play with them. But, for us diehard Allman & Mule fans we have to wait around over & over again every other year or so while the Core Four of The Grateful Dead rake in millions by capitalizing on the talents and efforts of younger hired help such as Warren Haynes and Jimmy Herring. I will admit that I do enjoy watching two of North Carolina’s finest musicians bail out four aging California icons though. I guess you can say that I have mixed emotions when it comes to the modern day DEAD tours ..I love the music, but hate the circumstances.
