Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s Psychedelic Pill

Neil Young on the cover of Relix, August 2003
Neil Young & Crazy Horse will release their second studio album of the year, Psychedelic Pill, in October. In an interview with Rolling Stone, guitarist Frank Sempedro confirmed the album’s release month and title. Young & Crazy Horse released Americana, an album of covers, in June and kicked off a summer tour in early August. The only Americana song Crazy Horse has played this summer is “Jesus’ Chariot,” though the band has introduced a number of new songs. One of those songs, “Psychedelic Pill,” appears to be the title-track for the band’s new album. “They just didn’t fit in,” Sempedro told Rolling Stone about the band’s decision not to perform Americana songs live. “Somehow they really sound good when we play them together, but when we play them in a set they just didn’t fit in. I told Neil that I thought it was a lot of fun playing them and they’re great songs, but our soul and our hearts aren’t in them.” Neil Young & Crazy Horse will headline New York’s Global Fest on September 29.
