Ozomatli Creates OzoKidz

Ozomatli will release a new album of kids songs, OzoKidz, on September 25. The idea to do the album struck the band after they were asked by PBS to record a series of instructional songs to be featured on-air and on-line as part of the network’s children’s programming. After writing “Opposable Thumbs,” “Nouns,” and “Measurement,” the prospect of creating an original album of their own started to not seem so far-fetched. According to the band, “offers to record songs for the Warner Brother’s Interactive Elmo’s Musical Monsterpiece and Happy Feet II video games only sealed the deal.” The band tested out their new tunes during a few kids’ concerts and served as a special guest on the Yo Gabba Gabba tour. Then, they headed into the studio.

Recorded at Brushfire Studios in LA with acclaimed producer Robert Carranza (Jack Johnson, Mars Volta), OzoKidz features many of the group’s trademark styles: rock steady, rock and hip hop, among others.

Here’s a look at the album’s tracks

I’m with Jamie #1. I looked small thruughoot my entire pregnancy (I’m 5’11 and my baby was all curled up). People constantly were telling me I wasn’t gaining enough weight (even though I was measuring right on and I gained the recommended amount of weight). Why do they think that my weight is any of their business? That’s between my doctor and me. Now if you want to compliment me on my gorgeous bump, that’s one thing. But a woman at church honestly told me that I needed to be eating cheeseburgers! Lo and behind, my daughter weighed in at 9lbs 7oz (I was two weeks late)! Looks like she was just fine
