Dave’s Picks Volume 3: Chicago 1971

The third installment in the Grateful Dead’s Dave’s Pick’s series has just been announced. Selected by archivist David Lemieux, Dave’s Picks Volume 3 presents the group’s show from October 22, 1971 at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago. In addition to this two two discs, a third one collects highlights from the previous night at the venue. The Grateful Dead’s fall 1971 tour marked keyboard player Keith Godchaux’s first run with the band. At this Chicago Theatre show Godchaux “tears through rockers and bouncy mid-tempo numbers with the confidence of someone who had been playing this music forever and you can feel the electricity in the rest of the band, as Jerry, Phil, Bob and Bill absorb and play off of the amazingly inventive musings of their new recruit.” A limited number of Dave’s Picks Volume 3 sets are available to those who didn’t subscribe to the Dave’s Picks series.
