Photographer Jeff Kravitz Celebrates A Half Century with Members of Umphrey’s McGee, Lettuce and Zappa Plays Zappa

Renowned photographer Jeff Kravitz celebrated his 50th birthday on Saturday night in Culver City, CA. The party took place at Mission Control and extended until 7:00 AM. The evening featured music from Umphrey’s McGee’s Joel Cummins and Kris Myers along with Erick “Jesus” Coomes (Lettuce) and Jamie Kime (Zappa Plays Zappa). Kravitz took the stage to the theme of “Hawaii 5-0” to blow out his birthday candles before joining the group on lead vocals for “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover,” “Cities” and “Sympathy for the Devil.” Later, following a DJ Wyllys set, Kravitz re-emerged for “Eyes of the World,” “Not Fade Away” and “Can’t Stand Losing You.” The night later featured a 4:20 AM bonus set, with Kravitz, Myers, Cummins and Sean Alquist delivering a 20-minute version of the classic Grateful Dead combo of “Scarlet Begonias” > “Fire on the Mountain.”
