Dr. John Teams Up with The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach on New Album

Recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Dr. John will release his new album, Locked Down, on April 3 via Nonesuch Records. The record, which takes a noticeable departure from his recent efforts, is produced by The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach. On the new long player, Dr. John teams up with Auerbach and a band of young musicians Auerbach hand-picked to make the record at his Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville. This will also mark Dr. John’s Nonesuch debut. According to Auerbach:
“[Dr. John] inspired me every single day we were in the studio together: musically, spiritually, cosmically … something special seemed to be happening and everyone involved could sense it. For my money, [he’s] one of the greatest who ever was and who ever will be … I’m so honored to have had this opportunity to work with him.”
Auerbach apparently visited Dr. John late in 2010 in his hometown of New Orleans, offering to help the iconic musician make the best record he had made in some time. That conversation led to the joint collaboration at this summer’s Bonnaroo Jam, which was curated by Auerbach.
Album pre-order details are expected to come shortly.
