Antibalas Return

Antibalas has been relatively inactive over the past three years while members of the group performed in the Fela! musical. But the group will come together to record their first album since 2007’s Security . According to an article in Billboard, Daptone Records will release the album in mid-2012 and the ensemble will tour into 2013. Daptone founder Gabe Roth—who was an early member of Antibalas before shifting his attention to the Dap-Kings—will produce the album. “The new Antibalas record is more getting back to our roots,” trombonist Aaron Johnson told Billboard.com. “We’re not a Fela (Kuti) cover band but what he did is so amazing and so powerful, we just want to play it right — stay true to his instrumentation and capture all we can in six or eight minutes.” The project will be Antibalas’ first full-length release on Daptone, though the label reissued 2004’s Who is This America? and Security.
