Thanksgiving with Del and the Boys

Ever since Cold Turkey launched in 2005, Relix and Jambands.com have celebrated the music of Del McCoury Band during Thanksgiving Weekend. While the Cold Turkey podcast has largely morphed into Relix / Jambands.com’s live video series, we still regroup a few times a year to offer some exclusive audio. This Thanksgiving we are not only proud to present some previously unreleased music from Del McCoury Band but also to highlight his new Bill Monroe tribute album Old Memories.
This year’s Del McCoury Cold Turkey Thanksgiving special starts with three songs from Old Memories: “Lonesome Road Blues,” “I’m Blue, I’m Lonesome” and “Girl in the Blue Velvet Band.” The special then shifts from Del to his boys with a previously unreleased version of “Broken Convertible” recorded by Travelin’ McCourys and their recent tour companion Keller Williams. Finally, we wrap things up with a nod to Occupy Wall Street: “Moneyland” from a Del McCoury Band concert at Roanoke, VA’s Jefferson Center on October 29, 2011. The five-song special is now available on Relix.com.
While you’re stuffing your turkey or tofu turkey, also be sure to check out this month’s other Cold Turkey specials featuring: Al Schnier, Real Estate and Keller Williams (episode 4), Ani, G. Love and Apollo Sunshine (episode 3 ), The Barr Brothers, Deer Tick and Chris Thile (episode 2 ) and Megafaun, Spin Doctors and Michael Franti (episode 1 ), among many others. For more on Del, be sure to read Randy Ray’s extensive interview with the bluegrass legend elsewhere on the site.
