An Almost Dead Reunion

As previously reported, Bob Weir and Mickey Hart joined Bill Kreutzmann and his current project 7 Walkers at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall last night. Hart and his longtime percussion partner Sikiru Adepoju sat in with the group throughout their entire first set. Partway through 7 Walkers’ first set, Weir also joined the band and their guests for “New Speedway Boogie.” It was the first time Weir, Hart and Kreutzmann had shared the stage since The Dead’s Rothbury performance on July 4, 2009 (though Hart has collaborated with both Kreutzmann and Weir). Weir remained onstage for the rest of 7 Walkers’ set, which included “Birdsong,” “Fever,” “Wang Dang Doodle,” “Big Rail Road Blues>Mr. Charlie>Big Rail Road Blues,” “Sugaree” and “Deal.” Another noted artist, Maria Muldaur, also sat in on “Wang Dang Doodle.”
After the evening’s guests left the stage, 7 Walkers returned for a second set of music. A video of last night’s performance is now available elsewhere on Relix.com.
