Trey Debuts New Songs Co-Written with Tom Marshall and the Dude of Life

Trey Anastasio Band kicked off their fall tour at South Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground on Saturday night. Like Phish’s recent Vermont show, the performance was a benefit for Vermont flood relief. Though Anastasio shied away from talking directly about Hurricane Irene, he emphasized his Vermont ties by mentioning that TAB’s precursor 8 Foot Florescent Tubes played the second show at the original Higher Ground in 1998.

Saturday’s setlist featured material written at numerous points during Anastasio’s solo career as well as the band’s reworked version of Page McConnell’s Phish classic “Magilla.” Perhaps most notably, the group also debuted the new original songs “Snake Head Thumb” and “Winter Queen.” Anastasio co-wrote “Snake Head Thumb” with the Dude of Life while he co-wrote “Winter Queen” with Tom Marshall.

In addition, the ensemble ran through two of the pop covers they regularly performed earlier this year, Gorillaz’s “Clint Eastwood” and Outkast’s “Hey Ya!”

Trey Anastasio Band will perform in Asheville, NC on October 6.
