R.E.M. Members to Help Play Big Star’s Third/Sisters Lovers Live
R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe has joined the lineup for Big Star’s Third/Sister Lovers tribute show. As previously reported, a mix of musicians will perform Big Star’s Third/Sister Lovers in its entirety at New York’s Mason Hall at Baruch College on March 26. Big Star drummer Jody Stephens—the group’s only remaining founding member—will be joined by The Lost in the Trees Orchestra with Jane Scarpantoni, Django Haskins (The Old Ceremony), Brett Harris, Sidney Dixon and Matt McMichaels for the performance. In addition to Stipe, a number of artists will sit in throughout the night, including Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub), Mitch Easter (Let’s Active), Ira Kaplan (Yo La Tengo), Tift Merritt, Mike Mills (R.E.M.), Will Rigby (the dB’s), Matthew Sweet and Chris Stamey (the dB’s). Additional guests will be confirmed in the coming days.
