Perry Farrell: Electronic act to headline Lollapalooza

In an interview for a Q&A to be published in the forthcoming April/May issue of Relix, Lollapalooza founder and figurehead Perry Farrell gave fans a sneak peek at what the festival is up to for its 20th anniversary in addition to a big hint as to who one of the headliners is (the festival has yet to officially announce its lineup).

“[The electronic themed] Perry’s Area is indicative of it what I’m trying to do—take dance music out of just one zone and put it onto the mainstage,” Farrell said. “I can’t tell you who’s gonna be headlining this year, but one of the headliners is a dance act. One of my ideas to go along with that—since Lollapalooza [in Chicago] ends at 11 o’clock—was to bring the show over the weekend into the after party realm. The later the night goes, the more it plays into the world of house music and dance music in general.”

Given that there are very few electronic acts big enough to fill a headlining Lollpalooza slot, speculation points readily to Daft Punk, The Prodigy or, most likely in this writer’s opinion, deadmau5.

Farrell, who will be Chile next month for the international debut of Lollapalooza, is currently recording a new Jane’s Addiction album with help from TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek in addition to simultaneously cutting two electronic-based solo projects. Though he’s very excited about this year’s two festivals, he’s already looking to the future of Lollapalooza: “Look man, I’ve got plans for next year that are going to be state of the art and they’re a separation from what was happened over the last 20 years.”

If Justice headlines over Daft Punk, deadmau5, the Chemical Brothers or anyone else in the world of electronic music then lollapalooza will officially be dead!

Chemical Brothers

It’s Justice.

mike March 22, 2011, 21:47:28

Justice is the most likely right?

It has to be Justice or Chemical Brothers. The Chemical Brothers would fit with the retro act thing (even though some of the stuff they’ve been doing recently is their best), but Justice might even be more popular with the typical Lolla attendee.

Chemicals please. They’ve played Coachella countless times but never Lollapalooza.

I think its Deadmau5 or Justice.. I want to dream and think its Daft Punk lol

Chemical Brothers played North Coast Festival in Chicago last year, so you could have caught them there….Anyways, I really don’t think Justice is big enough to headline Lolla. They’re not well known enough yet. It has to be either Daft Punk, Deadmau5, or Chemical Brothers

i dont think justice is big enough for a main stage outside of perrys stage, the reason theyd put an electronic act on a main stage would be because of their light set up, and that leaves the chemical brothers, deadmau5….and dare i say…daft punk

Justice, Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim are not lolla headliners material.. My money is at Deadmau5 or Daft Punk

My personal hope is for Underworld. Although Daft Punk was great in ’07, I hope it is someone who hasn’t played Lolla recently. Ultra has Chemical Bros. headling one of their days this year (along with Tiesto and Deadmau5 the other two days) but then again, Underworld is one line below Deadmau5.

YOU STICEEEEE!!!! Justice IS headline material (period) However, their sets are usually pretty short. I’d rather see them than deadmau5 & Daft Punk is supposedly not touring this summer. Either way, this is UUUUUGE & you can expect to see me there woo woo

Note: It may take a moment for your post to appear
