Phil’s 71st Birthday Show

Furthur at Best Buy last night. Photo by Dino Perrucci
Phil Lesh celebrated his 71st birthday last night with a Furthur performance at New York’s Best Buy Theatre. Unlike Lesh’s 70th birthday celebration, last night’s show did not feature any special guests (though fans were treated to free cupcakes in the venue’s lobby in celebration of the bassist’s birthday).
During its second set, Furthur performed the Beatles’ Abbey Road medley in its entirety. The musicians built up to the medley by performing a song off the album each night of their winter tour. After finishing their second set with “Built to Last” and “Truckin,’” the members of Furthur returned to the stage to play a song Lesh co-wrote for the Grateful Dead, “St. Stephen.” The band then closed the night with the final song off Abbey Road, the ditty “Her Majesty.”
Furthur will perform in Fairfax, VA tomorrow. Please click here for a look at Furthur’s previous Abbey Road covers.
