Three Nights of the Blind Boys and Friends

The Blind Boys of Alabama will host three special shows at New York’s Lincoln Center this July. All performances will take place in the famed venue’s Alice Tully Hall (Starr Theater) in celebration of the group’s new record Duets.

The series will kick off with a night dubbed Spirit in the Dark on July 12. That performance will pair the members of the Blind Boys with Yo La Tengo, My Morning Jacket’s Jim James, Lambchop and Marshall Allen and the Sun Ra Horns for an “unscripted musical adventure.”

The collaborations will continue on July 14 for The Unbroken Circle. That evening will explore the Blind Boys’ love of country and bluegrass music, featuring collaborations with Dr. Ralph Stanley, Randy Travis, Yonder Mountain String Band, Ray Benson and Jason Roberts of Asleep at the Wheel and Allison Moorer. The Blind Boys are expected to debut several songs from its new album, which will be recorded in Nashville.

The series will conclude with the Blind Boys of Alabama Family Revival on July 16. The finale will pair the gospel group with blues/New Orleans acts like Aaron Neville, Joan Osborne, Dan Zanes, The Hot 8 Brass Band, Charlie Musselwhite and John Hammond.
