The Roots recruited just about everybody to come out for their inaugural New York City edition of Roots Picnic, typically held in their home city of Philadelphia. Among them, longtime collaborator and friend D’Angelo, Common, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, Wu-Tang Clan, Nile Rodgers and a rare live appearance from Talking Heads mastermind David Byrne on the final night. 

While we haven’t heard much from Byrne musically speaking in some time, he found his way to Bryant Park in New York on Saturday night to collaborate with The Roots on the Heads’ own “Born Under Punches” from their iconic Remain in Light record. Byrne showed that although he hasn’t found himself on stage in a while, he’ll never lose a step with an impressive vocal performance and jam with The Tonight Show‘s house band.
