Tool Drummer Danny Carey Played Aftershock Festival with ‘Very Serious’ Staph Infection

October 24, 2016

Tool embarked on their U.S. tour over the weekend, kicking things off at the Sacramento’s Aftershock Festival which found drummer Danny Carey playing despite a ‘very serious’ staph infection.

As guitarist Adam Jones said on Instagram (via Consequence of Sound), Carey was diagnosed with a poisonous spider bite on his upper leg on Friday morning, with the wound eventually cut open and drained revealing the staph infection. “By Saturday, he was still aching from head to toe,” Jones said. “From what I heard the local doctor recommended we skip the show. But Dan, with headaches and painful joints, played anyway.”

Tool will continue their run, presumably with Carey on drums, tonight in Salt Lake City. Watch “Opiate” from their Aftershock show over the weekend.
