As you peruse our new festivals section (it’s pretty, right?), one of the most important things to keep in mind is that none of this would have been possible without the help of our new friends at Plex. From time to time, we’re going to tell you a bit about the good people over there and all they’re doing to make it easy for you to enjoy your music (and movies, TV shows, photos…basically any of your media) anywhere you go. Best of all, it’s free!

If you’re unfamiliar with Plex and what it is they do—fear not. Plex is technology that gathers, organizes, and catalogs your music, videos, and photos, and allows you to access it anywhere. You can create playlists, share your music library with others, and stream it to any device. And by any device, we literally mean any device—computers, phones, gaming consoles, smart TVs…the list goes on.

Let’s say you have a staggering number of music tracks collecting dust in various folders on your computer. You’d love to enjoy them more often, but it’s too inconvenient to tether yourself to that machine. That’s where Plex comes in.

Simply setup a Plex account and download the free Plex Media Server. It does the heavy lifting from there. Plex finds all your tracks, adds metadata (no more “TRACK ONE” in your life) and organizes all your music (and photos and movies and TV shows) into a beautiful library that looks like this…
That beautiful library then becomes available on other devices simply by downloading a Plex app (check out the full list of available Plex apps here). I downloaded the iPhone app and can’t believe how awesome music libraries look in it.
