T in the Park Was a Mess Again

My God. What happened at T in the Park?

One of Scotland’s premiere music festivals is in hot water again. The list is lengthy, but the most severe of cases starts with the two reported possible drug-related deaths of two 17-year olds and an alleged rape. Police are continuing their investigation into both of these cases. Another body, that of 29-year old James Richardson, was found following the festival and was last seen getting off a bus leaving the festival site to smoke a cigarette.

Along with the four cases mentioned above, 429 crimes were reported over the weekend that turned into way more of a mud fest than a music fest, with the rain hammering the festival grounds and covering the 80,000 that littered the grounds at the Strathallan Estate. On top of all of that, reports of violence, littering, and other general fuckery were reported via social media, inspiring this rather jarring Twitter account that documented the madness.

The problems arose following last year’s event, too. When asked if there was any risk of T in the Park’s license being revoked, Councillor Tom Gray told the Daily Record, “I would say certainly there is a risk. There is no question.” Gray cited the transportation system as another need for improvement. “Major changes made to the transport arrangements and other aspects internally have to be resolved,” he added. “There were certain congestion areas with certain stands and stages being too close causing bottlenecks, but most of the problems are external concerning entry and exit.”

This year, Gray told the BBC that transportation was like “night and day” from last year, however the campsites rose to the top of the docket for next year as the festival enters it’s last year under contract at Strathallan, with numerous reports of drug use and violence in the camps.

It appears once again, T in the Park suffered from bad weather and unruly crowds that led to a trashed site, poor attendance and a very uncertain future.
