A Halloween Weekend Recap

Bill Kreutzmann with Railroad Earth

Here’s a run-down on what you may have missed this Halloween, and see how this year measured up with previous years’ costumes and covers.

Key Collaborations

Cyril Neville re-joined the Original Meters in New Orleans during the Voodoo Experience.

During Yonder Mountain String Band’s Halloween-themed show at the Best Buy Theater in New York on Saturday, the band brought out the Infamous Stringdusters and Noam Pikelny of the Punch Brothers for “Pretty Daughter” and “Death Trip,” and then returned for the encore where they played “Up On The Hill Where They Do The Boogie” and “Let Me Fall.”

Sunday night at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall, the 7 Walkers welcomed Bob Weir and Mickey Hart for a few songs, including “New Speedway Boogie” and “Wang Dang Doodle.”

The Mother Hips’ Halloween Bash at California’s Mystic Theatre saw RatDog guitarist Mark Karan come out for “Song in a Can” and “Easy Wind,” as well as “Out in the Woods” and “One Way Out.”

Medeski Martin & Wood and Antibalas shared the stage for an entire set Thursday, Friday and Saturday while playing in D.C., Philadelphia and New York City. On Saturday, the two bands performed the MMW tune “Dracula” for Halloween.

Particle appeared in Denver Monday night and were joined by their former guitarist Scott Metzger, as well as a slew of hula hoopers, dancing bears and Winnie the Pooh characters on stage.

On Friday during the Hangtown Halloween Ball in Placerville, California, Railroad Earth brought out Bill Kreutzmann for “Elko” and “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodleoo.” Later during “Bird in a House.” Railroad Earth later welcomed three members of Elephant Revival.

Key Costumes

Ween dressed up in sailor outfits and played a few nautical songs during their Halloween show.

The Warren Haynes Band donned 70s garb as a tribute to Sly & the Family Stone.

As per usual, Umphrey’s McGee dressed up for their Atlanta shows this past weekend, with Brendan Bayliss as Keith Richard Simmons, Jake Cinninger as Dimebag Daryl Hall, Ryan Stasik as Karate Kid Rock, Joel Cummins as Vince Neil Armstrong, Andy Farag as Raggedy Andy Rooney and Kris Myers as Pamela Anderson Cooper.

Lotus traveled back in time for their Monday night show in Tennessee, performing their debut album, Nomad, from start to finish.
