Widespread Panic’s Raves and Faves

Charlotte, NC, 7/19/98

DAVE SCHOOLS // BASS/VOCALS

Favorite Song
“Pilgrims”—it’s one I’ll never, ever get tired of playing. And for me, I take it really personally if we drop the ball. I feel disappointed when that song doesn’t have the emotional impact that I feel it should.”

Favorite Show
Panic in the Streets. [4/18/98—100,000 people attended the free Light Fuse Get Away CD release party in streets of Athens.] The fact that all of the things that had gone on for months leading up to that appearance worked in tandem to leave a good taste in everyone’s mouth sticks out as one of my favorite shows.

Favorite Tour
This sounds really self-serving and like it might even be bullshit, but the most recent short little spring tour.

Favorite Album
Light Fuse Get Away. I think that’s a really good starting point for people. If we just go studio: Everyday.

Morrison, CO 6/02

TODD NANCE // DRUMS/VOCALS

Favorite Song
“Space Wrangler”

Favorite Show
The first one would have to be right up there. As of late, the 25th anniversary shows in Athens and Atlanta were really a lot of fun [2/10-11, 2/14/11].

Favorite Tour
The first H.O.R.D.E. was a blast [in 1992].

Favorite Album
Everyday

Live Oak, FL 4/16/10

JIMMY HERRING // LEAD GUITAR

Favorite Song
“Pilgrims” and I love JB’s ballads.

Favorite Show
When Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi were playing with us at the All Good Music Festival up in West Virginia [7/12/08].

Favorite Tour
The last tour [Spring 2011].

Favorite Album
I love the John Keane records. It’s a tossup between Til the Medicine Takes and Ain’t Life Grand.

I had to search all over Seattle because not many news stands/book stores carry Relix these days and finally found one in W Seattle B&N. Ive been a fan since 95 & I loved the old school photos. One side note, I remember, I think it was back in the Light Fuse Getaway days…when Panic held the Panic in the Streets show in Athens GA back in 1998 at one interview Dave saying his favorite Panic tune to play was ‘Love Tractor’, that’s my fave song for him to play. My friend Amy’s favorite is Pilgrims so Im glad that it is his current favorite :) Thank you for a great article! Its awesome seeing our boys gracing your cover for their 25th Anniversary.

This is exactly what the all-star game is. It a game where everyone lets their guard down a little bit, no defensive is played and the score routinely ends with both teams scoring in the double digits. This isn baseball stale all-star game, where in the 8th inning managers will actually consider making a defense for offense shift in the lineup. In that sense, it is the perfect outlet for someone like Ovechkin, who during his second year in the league dubbed himself bomb when someone asked to give himself a nickname. Because whether it dating his girlfriend with model good looks, driving faster than the speed limit, sinking a hole in one on his first day playing golf, or scoring goals like this, few guys right now are having more fun that Alexander Ovechkin. And although many once celebrated the stoic and largely restrained Sidney Crosby as the necessary centerpiece celebrity of the NHL more and more including the Toronto Star and our own NHL Examiner Kitt Amundson, are calling the NHL to embrace the fun side of life, and a player that seems almost as comfortable off the ice as on. That player is Alexander Ovechkin.
